Insurance Organizations Named as Finalists for A.M. Best's 2004 E-Fusion Awards

Judges have selected projects from global insurance organizations Aon, GE Insurance Solutions, MetLife, The Hartford and Zurich, along with those of mid-sized insurers and several niche providers as finalists for the 2004 E-Fusion Awards, the A.M. Best Company announced. Recipients of the awards will be selected at E-Fusion 2004: The Business of Insurance, A.M. Best's fall conference devoted to current issues in insurance compliance, regulation and innovation.

The E-Fusion 2004 conference (http://www.efusion2004.com) will be held Oct. 17-19 at the Baltimore Hyatt Regency at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The conference features speakers from throughout the insurance industry addressing emerging issues in compliance, regulation and operations. The E-Fusion Awards http://www.efusionaward.com), which are an additional portion of the conference, are designed to spotlight innovative uses of technology to address insurance business challenges and are presented in six categories. Award finalists will present twice at the E-Fusion conference: first to explain the business case behind their project, then to demonstrate the project. Finalists and their projects, by category, include:

Agent/Broker Management:

-- Access Insurance Holdings (Instant Access, a Web-based rating and underwriting system);

-- American Modern Insurance Group (modernLINK, a suite of applications designed to allow distributors to perform a host of functions);

-- GUARD Insurance Group (Agency Service Center, which allows independent agents and brokers to manage books of business);

-- Insurance Capital Management (AHCP, a suite of applications to manage major medical insurance and other ancillary health and non-insurance products); and

-- The Hartford Financial Services (Hartford ExpressWay, allows appointed agents and brokers to provide real-time straight-through processing of standard and non-standard automobile and homeowners quotes and submissions emanating from their agency technology system).

Claims Management:

-- PA Consulting (Auto Physical Damage Claims Predictive Modeling System, which analyzes physical damage estimate data to target repair estimates with a high probability of leakage);

-- Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina (My Insurance Manager, a Web-based claims entry system that enables providers from large and small practices to meet the HIPAA-compliant claims entry mandate);

-- Case Knowledge L.L.C. (CaseKnowledge Litigation Management, provides individual claim and portfolio management, process management and performance metrics for defense litigation);

-- MarineBidExchange (MarineBidExchange.com, auction programs to repair or salvage vessels for insurance companies);

-- Valley Oak Systems Inc. (iVOS, an Internet-based claims administration/risk management software solution using J2EE technology); and

-- West Bend Mutual Insurance Co. (Claims Transaction Project, a browser-based claims administration system for personal lines claims handling).

Customer & Benefits Management:

-- Aon (www.NSO.com, provides nursing professionals and students a variety of insurance producs that can be purchased and serviced on-line, as well as a host of risk management materials and CE classes that can be taken on-line);

-- GE Insurance Solutions (Customer Service Center, provides data required to understand customer needs);

-- MetLife (MetLink, an online employer benefits administration portal for group customers);

-- OnlineBenefits, Inc. (Client Community, helps group insurance brokers build client service portals);

-- Small Business Service Bureau (www.sbsbhmo.com, provides online access to health care for Massachusetts-based small business owners); and

-- Zurich (Virtual Consulting, an online system that enables customers to see, by location, what their top 10 exposures to loss are, with related information).

Office Automation Management:

-- Business Risk Technologies Inc. (INSMGMT, a Web-based system that interfaces with legacy systems to provide a host of functions, including ratings, applications, underwriting, binding, issuance, policy management, commissions and more);

-- Companion Property & Casualty Group (Once and Done, allows producers to enter, quote, price and issue new business policy applications);

-- InsurSys (INSYS, an enterprise resource planning platform for both life and property casualty insurance companies);

-- Midland National Life Insurance Co. (Project+, a tool to track project data and statuses organization-wide); and

-- ProcessClaims Inc. (ClaimsPort, a solution configured on a per-claims basis to provide efficiencies and operational management resulting in reducing cycle time and severity).

Special Coverage Management:

-- BARS Holding Inc. (BARS Network, a web-based application that allows retail bail agents to quickly capture and track essential information regarding bond powers of attorney, defendants, indemnitors, collateral and forfeitures);

-- eReinsure (eReinsure reinsurance negotiation platform, allows parties involved in facultative reinsurance to manage the process of placing reinsurance and to maintain management information and reporting);

-- IAC Group (Simple Issue Term Support Center, provides solutions to over 600 financial institutions through a turn-key transition into the life insurance business); and

-- Scottsdale Insurance (Agency Information Exchange, a policy submission and back-office processing system for excess and surplus lines of insurance).

Underwriting Management:

-- Baltimore Life Cos. (INSpeed Technology, improves the underwriting and issue efficiency by utilizing a call center, electronic application, automated underwriting and voice-recognition signature technology);

-- Bristol West Insurance Group (OneStep, a Web-based point of sale underwriting system that allows producers to underwrite, quote, issue and service nonstandard automobile insurance policies);

-- Columbia Insurance Group (Businessowners Web Quote/Issue, allows an agent to quote and then submit without having to refer to rating and underwriting manuals);

IMT Insurance Co. (U-Assist, an automated underwriting system used for new business and amendment processing);

-- New York Central Mutual Fire Insurance Co. (A proprietary implementation of ISO's HomeValue system, allows underwriters, agents and third-party partners to access residential replacement valuations); and

-- RLI (eSubmissions, a solution that serves multiple lines of commercial P&C business, performs quote, rate, bind, forms issuance processes and integrates to disparate back-end systems).
